Kuntzman Announces Candidacy for Grand Saline ISD School Board

GRAND SALINE--Grand Saline Independent School District is gearing up for the fast approaching 2020 election to fill two seats at large on the ISD School Board this election cycle. A field of four candidates is starting to organize their campaigns to battle for the two open seats up for grabs this go-round.

Board hopefuls in 2020 are incumbents Bear Brown and Matt Strickland who will be defending their seats against newcomers Dustin Mason and Traci Kuntzman. As with any election, the Grand Saline Sun offers free space to all candidates running for public office so voters will be familiar with who is on the ballot. The Sun does not endorse any candidate in any election. We encourage all candidates to take advantage of this opportunity, and all voters to take this chance to familiarize themselves with these hopeful representatives. Your vote is your vote.

The first candidate to take this opportunity to announce her candidacy for Grand Saline ISD School Board is Traci Kuntzman. Kuntzman is a fourth generation Grand Saline resident, and was an honor graduate from Grand Saline High School.

Kuntzman says she is a professional that attended Texas A&M University in Commerce to earning a Masters Degree in Science focused in Health, Physical Education and Sport Studies. Kuntzman says that she has fourteen years of teaching experience on her resume, and she believes that experience gives her an insiders prospective that she will utilize to serve both student, and tax payer of Grand Saline Independent School District. Kuntzman is proud of her alma mater and wants to do her part to better the district as well as utilize her knowledge to better the educational experience at Grand Saline ISD.

The Grand Saline ISD School Board has been entrusted with the future of our most precious assets – our children. The future of our children will be determined by the education that they receive in our school district. Our students deserve the best administrators, faculty and staff that the state has to offer.

My name is Traci Driver Kuntzman and I am running for Grand Saline ISD School Board. I am a fourth generation Grand Saline resident and a proud Honor Graduate of Grand Saline High School. As an educator with 14 years of teaching experience, I have an insider’s perspective of what our schools need for continued success. I truly believe in Grand Saline ISD’s Vision Statement “Changing the World One Student at a Time.” To this do this, we must focus on retention of quality, experienced teachers and staff. Success for our students begins in the classroom. 

From 2017 – 2019, Grand Saline has received a B rating from TEA. I believe that Grand Saline ISD is on the right track to raise this rating from a B to an A.  It is my opinion that we can do this by retaining quality teachers and providing them with the tools they need in the classroom. With new incentives from TEA, we can insure that this happens in our district. 

Grand Saline ISD has so many opportunities available to our students: dual-credit classes through TJC, Career and Technology classes, TJC Promise Scholarship, UIL activities,

Special Programs, etc. With a continued focus on growth, retention, technology and excellence, Grand Saline ISD can become one of the best school districts in the state of Texas.

Early voting for the 2020 Grand Saline Independent School District School Board Election will begin April 20, and run through April 28.

Election Day will be May 2, 2020. You can cast your vote from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. at the Grand Saline Middle School located at 400 Stadium Drive, Grand Saline Texas, 75140.
