Sidney E. “Sid” Shuemake

Services for Mr. Sidney E. “Sid” Shuemake, 79, of Grand Saline, were scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, September 3, 2020, at Bartley Funeral Home, with Dallas FD Chaplain Elaine Maddox officiating.
Interment followed in Sand Flat Cemetery.
Mr. Shuemake passed away August 28, 2020, in Longview. He was born in Dallas to James Edward & Ruth Coker Shuemake. Sid was raised in Dallas and then moved to Grand Saline in 1971. He attained the title of Captain in the Dallas Fire Department with 34 years of service. He was also a real estate broker and a skilled carpenter. Mr. Shuemake served on the G.S. School Board, the Pruitt-Sand Flat Water Supply Board, Sand Flat Cemetery Association, and was a founder of the G.S. Youth Foundation. He helped build the park, refurbished the tennis courts, and coached softball, tennis and track. Mr. Shuemake was a member of the Sand Flat Church of Christ where he served as preacher for many years and married numerous friends and family members.
Mr. Shuemake is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 59 years, Vanida Beck Shuemake; daughter, Deanna Shuemake; granddaughter, Brandy Renѐ Tovar; and three brothers, Kenneth Shuemake, Robert Shuemake and Jimmy Shuemake.
Survivors include his two daughters, Sonda Dispenza and husband George of Longview and Cyd Hoffpauir of Grand Saline; four sisters, Jeanette Prestridge of Dallas, Shirley Robinette of Colorado, Rita Hansen and husband Jerry of Dallas, and Linda Basham of Dallas; seven grandchildren, Ashley Dispenza, Sidney Hoffpauir, Vanida Mays, Thomas Hoffpauir, Joey Dispenza, David Dispenza and Cassandra Watson; seven great-grandchildren, Kristen Myers, Gracie Tovar, Ethan Tovar, RubyLyn Tovar, Brock Aguirre, Samantha Mays and Layla Mays; three great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Thomas Hoffpauir, Sidney Hoffpauir, Joey Dispenza and Isaac Tovar.
The family received friends 1 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
