Current Confirmed Coronavirus Cases in Van Zandt County

Van Zandt County, Texas (May 10, 2021) – The Northeast Texas Public Health District has received confirmation of eighteen positive cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Van Zandt County between May 4-May 10, 2021, bringing the total to two thousand six hundred eighty five (2685).
All confirmed cases are currently at home in isolation. Four cases are located in the County with Ben Wheeler addresses, two cases are located within the city limits of Wills Point, five cases are located within the city limits of Canton, four cases are located in the County with Wills Point addresses, one case is located in the County with an Edgewood address and two cases are located in the County with Grand Saline addresses. There are currently 2532 recovered cases, 98 active cases and 55 deaths in Van Zandt County reported by the Northeast Texas Public Health District.
The Northeast Texas Public Health District is now required by the Department of State Health Services to report probable cases. Persons with positive antigen test are considered probable cases. Probable cases are not counted in our active cases above. There were twelve new probable cases reported by the Northeast Texas Public Health District between May 3-May 10, 2021, bringing the total at 1647. 91 are active, 1542 are recovered, and 14 deaths.
Governor Greg Abbott has issued an Executive Order (GA-34) lifting the mask mandate in Texas and increasing capacity of all businesses and facilities in the state to 100 percent.
This executive order rescinds most of the Governor’s earlier Executive Orders related to COVID-19. Effective Wednesday, March 10, 2021, all businesses of any type may open to 100% capacity. Additionally, this order ends the statewide mask mandate in Texas. Businesses may still limit capacity or implement additional safety protocols at their own discretion.
If COVID-19 hospitalizations in any of the 22 hospital regions in Texas get above 15% of the hospital bed capacity in that region for seven straight days, a County Judge in that region may use COVID-19 mitigation strategies.
