Three of Grand Saline’s Senior Athletes Signed a Letter of Intent
GRAND SALINE--National Signing Day has traditionally been the first day that a high school senior can sign a binding National Letter of Intent for a collegiate sport with a school that is a member of the United States National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
On Wednesday morning, three Senior athletes signed their letter of intent. Athletes that signed were Bryce Smith, Grant Lewis, and Delana Meyer.
Bryce Smith signed with Ouachita Baptist University to play collegiate baseball. Bryce was a first team all district pitcher as a sophomore. As a junior Bryce was the 12-3A pitcher of the year for the district and recorded 88 strikeouts. This past summer Bryce played with the Dallas Patriots were he traveled playing tournaments all across the United States.
Coach LaPrade commented, “Bryce is an extremely hard worker and will be a great addition for Ouachita Baptist University. We are so proud that all his hard work and dedication has paid off and that Bryce gets to continue to play the game he loves at the next level.”
Delana Meyer will be furthering her education and softball career at the University of Texas at Dallas. Delana is a fierce leader for the Lady Indian softball team and is an extremely hard worker. She was voted 1st team all District pitcher, Academic All State, 1st team All east Texas pitcher, 2nd team All State pitcher, and was the Lady Indian defensive MVP last season. Delana is currently ranked #2 in her class academically. Delana will be studying to be a speech therapist at UTD. “We are extremely proud of her and can’t wait to see her in the circle this upcoming season.”
Grant Lewis will be furthering his education and football career at Cisco Junior college. Grant was a 2-way starter for the Indian football team and a team captain. Grant has been voted All District, All East Texas, and All State Defensive End and Tight End. Grant also achieved Academic All State for football. Grant is ranked #9 in his class academically. Grant plans on getting into education with an emphasis on mathematics, and Grant wants to be a coach! “We are so proud of Grant and we know he will do great things at Cisco.”
